Level 4 Diploma in Business (L4DB)
The Level 4 Diploma in Business (RQF) (L4DB) makes up the first year of the NCC Education Business Degree journey. The qualification is equivalent to the first year of a business degree in the UK university system.
Students will be introduced to the many different aspects of international business in today’s world. Embarking on the qualification they will be exposed to both academic and vocational aspects of a wide range of subjects, enabling them to gain the necessary knowledge and skills vital for a career in business or further studies.
On successful completion of the qualification students will be able to continue their studies on the NCC Education Level 5 Diploma in Business (RQF) (L5DB) or at a UK university, or work in one of the many areas of the business world.

ACCREDITATION STATUS
NCC Education is regulated to award the Level 4 Diploma in Business (RQF) (L4DB) by Ofqual (Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation) in England. Ofqual qualification reference number 600/1325/4. -
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
For entry onto the NCC Education L4DB qualification students must have at least one of the following:
- NCC Education Level 3 International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies (RQF) (L3IFDHES) or Level 3 Diploma in Business (RQF) (L3DB).
OR
- An international qualification which is deemed to be of a similar level to the NCC Education L3IFDHES or L3DB qualification. This shall be agreed with NCC Education in advance.
OR
- Vocational experience which is deemed suitable by NCC Education.
If a potential student’s first language is not English, they will need to obtain a valid score of 5.5 or above in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination or equivalent. Alternatively, take the free NCC Education Higher English Placement Test, which is administered by our Accredited Partner Centres.

UNITS
Students must study the following eight core units:
- Essentials of Management – covers the principles and functions of management. Students will be taught the key elements in planning and decision-making, and the significance of different controls required in an organisation.
- Fundamentals of Economics – covers fundamental economic theories and concepts which are applied in decision-making in a business environment. Students will gain an understanding of the economic environment and its effect upon business organisations and their markets.
- Communications for Business – gives an introduction to a wide range of skills for business professionals. Students will cover the production of various types of documents and presentations as well as the skills needed to communicate effectively in a business environment.
- Understanding Business Organisations – introduces the objectives, roles, functions and various forms of business organisations as they adapt to a dynamic and changing environment.
- Business Mathematics – covers a range of mathematical techniques and formulae to support business studies and develop the ability to make informed business decisions. Students will also be taught to present and analyse business data.
- Introduction to Finance – introduces the basic concepts and techniques of financial and managerial accounting. It considers the role of accounting in recording and reporting financial performance and in providing information to decision makers.
- eBusiness – explores a wide range of applications for eCommerce and the use of these in solving business problems. Students will learn about state-of-the-art technologies and their major impact on the business world.
- Principles of Marketing – examines the role and value of marketing in today’s increasingly competitive and dynamic environment. Students will practise marketing principles in order to analyse, plan and implement policies to achieve marketing and corporate objectives.

Assessments for all units are offered in a number of assessment cycles throughout the year. All units are assessed by either examination or assignments.

ACADEMIC PROGRESSION
The qualification allows students entry to either the NCC Education Level 5 Diploma in Business (RQF) (which is equivalent to year 2 of a typical UK Honours degree) or the second year of many UK university degree courses, or enables them to pursue a career in the business industry.

Level 5 Diploma in Business (L5DB)
The Level 5 Diploma in Business (RQF) (L5DB) makes up the second year of the NCC Education degree journey and builds upon the knowledge gained during the NCC Education Level 4 Diploma in Business (RQF)(L4DB). Exposing students to greater detail and more advanced topics in a range of areas including economics, marketing, finance and management.
Students will study a balance of academic and vocational subjects in order to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to play a significant role in business organisations.
On successful completion of the qualification students will be able to complete the final year of a degree with the NCC Education Business Administration Top Up validated by the University of Worcester, at one of the many universities that recognise NCC Education qualifications, or pursue a career in the business industry.

UNITS
Students must study the following eight core units:
- Business Economics – examines how an organisation can achieve its objectives most efficiently through the application of micro-economic theory and the tools of analysis of decision science, such as statistics and quantitative methods. It demonstrates how economic analysis can be used in formulating business policies.
- Advanced Business Mathematics – provides an understanding of how a number of statistical and mathematical techniques are applied in economic and business decision-making.
- Marketing in Business – highlights the need for managers to view the role of marketing as critical to their organisation. The crucial role of marketing in contributing to the success of organisations is emphasised.
- Human Resources in Business – explores the dynamic role of human resource management policies and practices in contemporary organisations and their contribution to the goals of those organisations. It defines and critically examines the major philosophies, policies, procedures and practices related to the management of human resources.
- Understanding Consumer Behaviour – provides an understanding of customers’ needs and the complexity of the decision making process customers undertake in both consumer and industrial markets.
- Principles of Business Operations – explores the operations management function and its basis in creating and sustaining effective and efficient operations which deliver the products or services in a manner which achieves the objectives of the organisation. You will analyse this with respect to cost, quality, flexibility, dependability and speed.
- Financial Management – builds on your knowledge of fundamental financial concepts in financial and management accounting by considering the applications of these topics in a business environment and by examining a set of more advanced issues.
- Information Systems and Organisations – introduces the subject of information systems and technology in organisations, taking a broad management perspective. Students will gain an understanding of the current and future role of information systems in modern organisations, including an appreciation of the social, cultural and political aspects that are important to the successful adoption of technology.

Level 3 International Foundation Diploma
for Higher Education Studies (IFD)
The Level 3 International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies (L3IFDHES) formally called the International Foundation Year (IFY) is a one year pre-university qualification which includes a significant degree of English language teaching. The qualification is designed to provide an entry route to UK and international university courses or progression onto the NCC Education Level 4 Diplomas in Computing, Business and Business IT.
The L3IFDHES aims to improve general and academic English language ability, enhance study skills and cultural understanding and introduce academic study in English in the fields of computing and/or business at a suitable level.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
For entry onto the Level 3 International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies (RQF) qualification a student must have:
- Successfully completed secondary education in an appropriate range of subjects;
AND
- A valid score of 4.5 or above in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination or equivalent. Alternatively a student can take the free NCC Education Standard English Placement Test which is administered by our Accredited Partner Centres.

UNITS
To complete the qualification a student must study and pass eight units.
The qualification consists of six core units:
- Developing English Language Skills – develops English language skills to be able to communicate effectively beyond simple everyday contexts. It aims to improve all four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking and enables a student to acquire a broad range of knowledge which can be used to confidently and effectively communicate in English. The unit guides students through Intermediate and then Upper Intermediate levels of English language study.
- Advanced English Language Skills – enables a student to put into practice the language acquired and develop this into an advanced user of English. Students will make extensive use of the four skills of speaking, reading, listening and writing, as well as extending knowledge of complex grammar and advanced vocabulary.
- English for Academic Purposes – develops understanding and use of the key linguistic skills necessary to engage effectively in an academic environment where English is being taught.
- Study and Communication Skills – equips students with the essential study skills needed to succeed at university level. Students learn the basic skills necessary to conduct independent research, write academic papers, give formal oral presentations and apply what has been taught during lectures.
- Culture Studies – enables students to gain awareness and increased understanding of other cultures. Students learn about various features of a foreign country and its culture, with a particular focus on student life and studying abroad.
- Foundation Mathematics – builds upon existing knowledge in the areas of mathematics whilst introducing new topics appropriate across a range of academic disciplines.
A further two units must be taken from a choice of six electives:
- Introduction to Computer Science – provides a basic introduction to a range of IT topics including organisation of a computer system, the relationship between hardware and software, applications of computers, databases, networking (with a focus on the Internet), graphics and multimedia.
- Introduction to Programming – exposes students to extensive practical use of the modern programming language Visual Basic to illustrate the classic programming principles of sequencing, selection and iteration in the context of object-oriented computer programming.
- Introduction to Business – provides an introduction to the purpose, types and organisation of businesses. Students become familiar with a range of business concepts such as basic marketing practices.
- Introduction to Accounting and Economics – introduces the key principles of accounting and economics. Students become accustomed to concepts such as market structures and monetary policy and also learn how to produce simple financial statements.
- Further Mathematics – provides you with an understanding of different mathematical concepts and ideas, building on the work covered in the Foundation Mathematics unit. It will allow you to develop further algebraic techniques on a broad range of mathematical topics, building towards area often seen and used in university courses.
- Physics – equips you with a fundamental background of the principles of physics. The unit focuses on Newton’s mechanics, electrostatics and electrodynamics. The principles of thermal physics and magnetism are also introduced.
Optional Module: Introduction to IELTS – prepares for assessment by the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). This unit does not carry any credits towards the qualifications and is not assessed by NCC Education.
